Kidneys are vital organs and work as a filter located below the rib
cage on the side of the spine. Kidneys play a vital role in the human
body system because they purify the blood and blood circulates in the
whole body. Therefore kidney controls the all human functions and helps to
eliminate the waste and toxins from the blood.

This removal process of the waste produces urine. Kidneys also produce
red blood cells that are
crucial for delivering oxygen to the body. They regulate blood
pressure and assist in keeping bones strong and healthy.

How Can Kidneys Cause Puffy Eyes?

When kidneys do not perform their functions properly, waste and toxins are
accumulated and as a result, they leak a large number of proteins in
the urine that are caused swelling or puffiness around the
eyes.

The reason for the inability of kidney functions is a condition named “Nephrotic Syndrome“. Nephrotic syndrome occurs when glomeruli (clusters of microscopic
blood vessels that have tiny pores through which blood is purified or
filtered ) in the kidneys stop working.

Common Symptoms of Nephrotic Syndrome

Nephrotic Syndrome is a broad term of
several kidneys disorders but
common symptoms are:
  • Periorbital Edema
  • Infrequent Urination
  • Foam in the toilet water after the urination
  • Sudden weight gain
  • Fluid Retention
These are the early signs and symptoms of nephrotic syndrome disorder.
According to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a leading cause of death of people in the United States who have
chronic kidneys disease (CKD) was undiagnosed.

Because the symptoms are not always noticeable therefore it is
important to know all the symptoms of kidney disease and how can be
diagnosed?

How Nephrotic Syndrome Can be Diagnosed?

Nephrotic syndrome disorder is diagnosed with urine and
blood tests. A doctor diagnoses nephrotic syndrome on the basis of
examination of physical symptoms and laboratory test results.
Sometimes the nephrotic syndrome is considered heart failure in old age
people mistakenly. Because heart failure is common in older.
A laboratory test of urine is useful when urine is collected over a
24 hours period for measuring the degree of proteins loss. But it is
very difficult for many people to accomplish the collection of their
urine over such a long period.

Blood tests and urine tests also detect other characteristics of nephrotic
syndrome. They also detect the albumin level in the blood because it
excretes through the urine and its production is impaired. The urine
has less sodium and a high level of potassium in quantity.

Concentrations of lipid are high in the blood as compared to normal
concentration levels. Sometimes its level increases more than
10 times than a normal level. Levels of lipid are high in the urine
and anemia may occur. Blood clotting proteins levels can be increased
or decreased.
