A swollen eyelid occurs once inflammation, itching, and pain are the reason for excessive fluid (edema) involved within the connecting tissue of the encompassing space of the eyes.

2. Blepharitis

Blepharitis is the most general infection of the eyelids. It occurs once oil glands get clogged and irritated. Having bacteria is a common matter but Sometimes people have more bacteria in and around their eyelids that develop inflammation.

3. Chalazion (Cyst)

A Chalazion knew as an eyelid cyst or a meibomian. It normally happens with the reason of the blockage of an oily gland (meibomian) of the upper and lower eyelids. The basic function of these glands is to moisturize the eyes.

Chalazion makes a red bump on your upper and lower eyelids. They are mostly painless however they make your eyes watery and gently irritated. A larger Chalazion can make your vision into blurry vision.

4. Allergies

Allergy is a basic reason for swollen eyelids. It affects you in different ways like Food allergy, Dust allergy, Drug allergy, Bee sting allergy, Seasonal allergy, and hay temperature. 6. Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)

7. Orbital Cellulitis Or Pre Orbital Cellulitis

An infection of the soft tissues or fat of the orbit posterior to the orbital septum. Orbital Cellulitis is defined as a serious infection of soft tissues and fat located around your eye socket. 

Sometimes it is called Postseptal Cellulitis ( Infection of the contents of the orbit that contains Periorbital fat, Extraocular muscles, and Neurovascular bundles).

8. Bug Bite or Mosquito Bite (Insect Bites)

Mostly Bug bites cause red bumps, itching, swelling, burning, and pain. Sometimes bug bites leave a small mark on your skin with a small bite but it can create more pain and irritation.

9. Shingles

Shingle is a virus that is caused by the Varicella-Zoster Virus. Chickenpox and Shingles have the same Varicella-Zoster Virus. Even after the Chickenpox, some years later it causes Shingles.

10. Sinusitis

Sinusitis is a viral infection or inflammation in which the lining of the sinuses becomes inflamed. The sinuses are small and air-filled cavities behind your cheekbones and eyes.

11. Ectropion (ek-TROH-pee-on) and Entropion

Ectropion becomes when the lower eyelids are away from the eyes and turn towards the outside.  Normally it is not serious but it keeps discomfort. Ectropion basically affects the lower eyelids and can be at both eyes.

Entropion becomes when eyelids turn towards the eyes. Due to this condition, eyelid skin and eyelashes are causes rub against the eyeballs. This friction normally causes infection and swelling before the eyes.

12. Fluid Retention

Over time and with aging your eyelid tissues become weak that exist around your eyelids. Normal fat that helps to support your lower eyelids can move into the lower eyelids. This problem is known as Fluid Retention. it is also called edema causing your eyes puffiness and swelling.

13.  Eyelid Sunburn

If eyelids are sunburned with overexposure UV ( Ultraviolet ) rays your eyelid can feel dryness and itching. So eyelid sunburn can cause a swollen eyelid.

14. Blocked Duct

When your drainage system of eyes is blocked. Your eyes become watery and irritated and it is commonly found in newborns. When you have a blocked duct tear you can bear swollen eyelids.

Ocular Herpes also known as Eye herpes a condition in which our eyes sufferers the herpes simplex virus known as HSV. This virus directly affects the Cornea which is the main front portion of our eyes.

20. Crying

Forceful or long crying can rupture the small blood vessels of your eyelids. it can become a cause of fluid retention also. These both are causes of swollen eyelids.

21. Angioedema (Angio neurotic edema)

Angioedema is a reaction to swelling due to fluid accumulation. it reacts beneath the skin or mucosa and creates rapid edema or swelling. Normally eyes and lips are swollen.

22. Wear Contact Lenses

Wearing contact lenses is very commonly used in this modern age globally as fashion. but it is a cause of corneal swelling which results in swollen eyelids.
